Gusts of wind up to 100 kilometres per hour have caused damage in the province of Palermo during the night between Saturday and Sunday.

Numerous fire brigade interventions were needed in the capital Palermo as several trees were uprooted by the fury of the wind.

In piazza Bologni the wind has uprooted a gazebo, while in Piazza Mordini the wind has knocked down a few hundred-year-old palms trees.

Access for the public in Palermo to the villas and public gardens will remain closed due to the danger from broken branches. The connections with the smaller islands are also suspended.
