Trump says he believes that Democrats have the numbers to impeach him

President Trump on Friday said he believes House Democrats have the votes to impeach him, but expressed confidence that he would be exonerated in the Senate and Republicans would benefit at the polls.

Trump told reporters that he expected House Democrats to fall in line in support of his impeachment. The House is in the middle of an impeachment inquiry centred on allegations that Trump abused his office for personal gain by urging foreign leaders to investigate a political rival.

Meanwhile, Democrats in the House of Representatives have demanded the White House hand over documents relating to the impeachment inquiry.

The heads of the Democratic-led committees involved in the investigation said in a joint statement to acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney that they “deeply regret” having to issue subpoenas for the investigation, but that President Donald Trump had left them with “no choice.”
