“The Crown” has a new ‘Queen’
Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Boston Globe: When Netflix’s “The Crown” returns for season 3 in 2019, the royal drama will look a little different. Actually, it will look a lot different. The action will move ahead to cover the period of 1964 through the mid-1970s, but much more than the hairstyles will change.

Rather than cake up Claire Foy and Matt Smith in prosthetic goo so they’ll look older as the series works its way through the life and times of Queen Elizabeth II, show creator Peter Morgan has decided to cast new actors. All the major characters will be different.

Most importantly, Olivia Colman will take over the pearls from Foy, as Her Majesty faces the Carnaby Street era.

Today, Netflix released the first photo of Colman in the role. There she is, in a pink suit, a consoling cup of tea in her hand and a jar of jam in close reach.

The show’s Twitter account posted a shot of Coleman, dressed in a pale pink suit and set of pearls, with the one-word message “Patience”.

As of last week, “The Crown” is nominated for 13 Emmy awards, including Foy for actress, Matt Smith for supporting actor as Prince Philip, and Vanessa Kirby for supporting actress as Princess Margaret. Will the newcomers fare as well?
