Boris Johnson has called a surprise meeting of his cabinet later today, as a Downing Street source hinted at a possible snap general election.

“Cabinet is being called for this afternoon,” The BBC’s Political Editor said Laura Kuenssberg said. “Real possibility now Johnson might put a motion down to ask MPs to vote for an election this weeK.

Meanwhile Conservative MPs have been warned they risk being kicked out of the party if they defy Boris Johnson’s plan to leave the European Union with or without a deal on October 31.
