Powerful earthquake shakes Athens
The Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens and the American USGS, reported that an earthquake of an initial intensity of 5.3 shook the Greek capital, Athens.
The epicentre of the quake was located 23 kilometres northwest of Athens.
According to initial reports, the earthquake had a focal depth of 12 kilometres. Reports also said that the earthquake knocked out telecoms and power in parts of the Greek capital.
A fire brigade official said there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, although there had been calls asking for help in rescuing people trapped in elevators.
