No room whatsoever for renegotiation of Brexit – Juncker
European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker told Theresa May that there is no room whatsoever for renegotiating the 585-page Brexit treaty to appease UK MPs.
The FT reports that while speaking in Strasbourg to MEPs, the president of the European Commission said there was “room” to provide Mrs May “further” clarity about a “backstop plan” to prevent the return of a hard border between Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic after Brexit. However, this would not lead to a change to the legally binding withdrawal text.
“The deal we achieved is the best deal possible, it is the only deal possible. There is no room whatsoever for renegotiation,” he said. “Everyone has to know that reopening the withdrawal agreement will not happen”.
