An auction by Christie’s to mark the 40th anniversary of Baroness Thatcher’s election raised more than £1 million and attracted bidders from 36 countries across six continents.
Every single one of the 192 items put up for auction was sold.
The top lot of the sale was a multi-gem and diamond brooch by Van Cleef & Arpels which sold for £50,000. The brooch had an estimate of £10,000-15,000.
Quirkier items in the sale included two pairs of desk lamps, sold for £1,000, an ostrich leather handbag (£2,000) and two bibles and a hymnbook (£4,375).
This auction concluded the series of three successful sales held at Christie’s following Mrs Thatcher’s death in 2013.
Lady Thatcher died on April 8, 2013, aged 87. The auctions began in 2015 and have raised more than £4.5m.
