Malta: Three road accidents leave 13 suffering from injuries in the past 24 hours (Updated)
Today at around 1155hrs, the Police were informed that their assistance was needed in Vjal ir-Rihan in San Gwann.
The Police went immediately on site where preliminary investigation showed that an impact occurred between a Nissan March that was being driven by a 49 year old woman who resides in Sliema and a Honda that was being driven by a 28 year old Latvian man .
An ambulance was called on site to take the man to Mater Dei hospital for further treatment. Later he was certified as suffering from grievous injuries.
Earlier in the day, ten persons have been hospitalised following a traffic accident at Triq Sant’Andrija, Pembroke, today, July 13, 2019 at about 0400hrs.
Preliminary investigations by the District Police revealed that a collision took place between a Volkswagen Passat driven by a 42-year-old man from Senglea, a Fiat 500 driven by a 21-year-old woman from Swieqi, a Toyota Yaris driven by a 33-year-old Italian man from Paola and a Nissan Micra driven by a 23-year-old woman.
Riding as passengers in the Toyota Yaris were an Italian 17-year-old girl residing in Għargħur, another 17-year-old girl residing in St. Paul’s Bay and a 16-year-old boy.
Another three passengers were also in the Nissan Micra, a 19-year-old Italian man residing in Mosta, a 16-year-old Italian boy residing in Birkirkara and a 16-year-old Italian girl residing in San Ġwann.
Members from the Civil Protection Department and ambulances were called on site to assist the victims. All 10 persons were taken to hospital for treatment.
Later the 21-year-old woman and the 16-year-old girl were certified as suffering from grievous injuries.
Five of the other people involved were certified as suffering from slight injuries whilst the other three were unhurt.
Police investigations are still underway.
In another incident a 29-year-old Norwegian man has been hospitalised following a traffic accident in Triq Nazzjonali, Ħamrun, today, July 13, at around 0110hrs.
The Police went immediately on site and from preliminary investigations, they found that the man was hit by a Peugeot 607, which was being driven by a 40-year-old man from Żurrieq.
While on the ground, the man was hit by another vehicle, a Toyota Vitz, which was being driven by a 31-year-old man from Valletta.
Members from the Civil Protection Department and an ambulance were called on site to assist the victim. The man was taken to Mater Dei hospital for further medical treatment. Later, he was certified as suffering from serious injuries.
A Magisterial Inquiry has been appointed into the case whilst Police investigations are still underway.
