May hints she will quit if forced to accept a long delay to Brexit
British Prime Minister Theresa May has strongly hinted she will quit if forced to accept a long delay to Brexit, dramatically staking her premiership on tomorrow’s EU summit.
“As prime minister, I am not prepared to delay Brexit any further than 30 June,” she told MPs – later repeating the statement to drive home the message.
The comment came during a stormy prime minister’s questions, during which MPs lined up to attack her plan to ask the EU for only a short extension to the Article 50 process.
May launched an extraordinary attack on MPs for twice voting down her Brexit agreement, accusing the Commons of “contemplating its navel”.
Earlier May said it would not be right for Britain to take part in May’s European elections and confirms she has written to the EU’s Donald Tusk requesting an extension of Article 50 until 30 June.
