A massive failure in the electrical interconnection system left Argentina and Uruguay without power, according to reports on local media.

The power failure brought chaos in Argentina, which has been in the dark for more than an hour, and all trains were suspended.

It came as people in parts of Argentina were preparing to go to the polls for local elections.

Reports said the power cut had also affected parts of Brazil and Paraguay.
