Italy won the gold medal in the men’s water polo, grabbing its first world title in eight years at the 18th FINA World Championships on Saturday.

Italy defeated Spain 10-5 in the gold medal match for its first world title since 2011.

In the semifinals on Thursday, Italy eliminated Hungary, the silver medalist in Budapest two years ago, while Spain knocked off the defending champion Croatia 6-5.

Both teams secured berths in the 2020 Olympic Games by reaching the final and the Italians celebrated their second gold medal under coach Alessandro Campagna, who jumped into the pool with his jubilant players to celebrate.

Earlier, Croatia beat Hungary 10-7 to pocket the bronze medal.
