Italy has continued to register declines in the rate of new infections, with 744 cases identified in the past 24 hours. The Civil Protection, in its daily briefing, also noted less recoveries in hospitals, and, for the first time since 10th March, there are less than 1,000 patients in intensive care.
106,587 persons have now recovered, 1,401 since yesterday. The number of active cases stands at 82,488, 836 less than Sunday.
Deaths from the COVID-19 epidemic in Italy rose by 179 during the same period, compared to 165 the day before according to the Civil Protection Agency said, as the daily tally of new cases fell to 744 from 802 on Sunday.
It was the lowest number of new cases announced on any given day since March 4.
The total death toll since the outbreak came to light on Feb. 21 now stands at 30,739 the agency said, the third highest in the world after those of the United States and Britain.
Meanwhile, Lombardy has reached the grim total of 15,000 deaths with 68 added since Sunday.
