Reports from Libya said that aircraft under the command of Khalifa Haftar’s forces Monday bombed Mitiga airport though there has been no independent confirmation as to who carried out the attack.

The bombing happened  as many passengers were waiting for their flights‬. So far there have been no reports of casualties in the Mitiga airport bombing but flights from the airport have now been suspended for the safety of passengers .

Mitiga is currently used as Tripoli’s main airport due to the damage in Tripoli International Airport because of the past battles. Tripoli Airport in the weekend saw heavy fighting between opposing forces for its control with the Libyan National Army (LNA) under Haftar’s command claiming to have captured it.

The LNA on Sunday carried out its first air strikes on the southern part of Tripoli since announcing last week that he was launching an offensive on the capital with Tripoli international airport

The head of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez al-Sarraj, who is based in Tripoli, accused Haftar of “betraying” him.

Forces backing Sarraj announced a counteroffensive on Sunday to defend the capital.
