The European Parliament today held a ceremony to commemorate and honour Daphne Caruana Galizia, on the occasion of the first anniversary since her brutal murder.

During this ceremony, in Strasbourg,  which was presided by President Antonio Tajani, a portrait of the slain journalist, by Marie Louise Kold, was unveiled, in the presence of Caruana Galizia’s husband and son.

A free and democratic country should not witness the killing of those who work to tell the truth, European President Antonio Tajani. He was speaking at the EP in Strasbourg, before the unveiling of a portrait of Daphne Caruana Galizia. “We are here today to honour Daphne’s bravery and recall her life and works,” Tajani said.

Earlier today MEP candidate Peter Agius gave an indication of this event, when he described the artist as a person of good will, and when people of good will unite, great things happen.

The following is a video about how the artist ‘created’ Daphne Caruana Galizia’s portrait.

Meanwhile, yesterday,  Caruana Galizia was awarded Transparency International’s 2018 Anti-Corruption Award. The award was also given to Spanish whistleblower and campaigner Ana Garrido Ramos. The awards were presented during a ceremony at the 18th International Anti-Corruption Conference in Copenhagen on Monday.
