These are the headlines from Malta’s Newspapers:

The Times reveals that the director and shareholder of Satabank was the bank’s main client through another payment company. The paper says that a system of virtual IBANs meant that the identity of depositors may not have been known by the bank.

The Independent says that Transport Malta revoked the license of a parking attendant and temporarily suspended another three in 2018. Another person acting as a parker without a license was jailed for six months.

L-Orizzont announces an industrial dispute by the General Workers Union with the Health Ministry over the employment conditions of care workers engaged by private contractor Healthmark.

In-Nazzjon reports that court proceedings against former parish priest Deo Debono will start this morning. Debono is accused of involvement in theft of sacred artworks and antique silver from religious convents in Valletta.

The Times reports that MPs Marlene Farrugia and Godfrey Farrugia resigned from Partit Demokratiku and that they will not seek re-election. In a letter to the committee they said this will give the party time to rebuild before the next general election.

The Independent carries an interview with Malta Union of Teachers president Marco Bonnici. He said that the government is taking the’ easy way out’ in importing teachers to compensate for the shortage in educators.

L-Orizzont quotes Pope Francis who warned priests who have abused of vulnerable people to ‘prepare for divine justice’ if they don’t admit to their actions. The paper says that six priests were defrocked in Malta following abuse reports.

In-Nazzjon says Prime Minister Joseph Muscat is using public money to back minister Ian Borg’s bid for the party’s leadership. In another story, the paper says that Chris Fearne and Robert Abela ‘make their intentions known’ to contest a leadership race.
