Palestinian groups in the Gaza Strip say they have agreed to an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire with Israel to end the worst violence between the two sides in years.
This is a developing story based on reports published by AlJazeera and Times of Israel
Times of Israel reports that “A senior Israeli diplomatic official confirms that a ceasefire agreement has been reached with terror groups in the Gaza Strip.
“Israel maintains its right to act. Requests from Hamas for a ceasefire came through four different mediators. Israel responded that the events on the ground will decide [if a ceasefire will go into effect],” the official says, speaking on condition of anonymity.”
Al Jazeera reports that the Hamas-led factions on Tuesday accepted the truce “to restart the situation that prevailed up until this latest military escalation”.
