Malta’s reaction to Trump’s withdrawal from the Iran Nuclear agreement

1 minute read.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Investment Promotion, in a statement said that Malta continues to support the full and effective implementation and preservation of the Iran Nuclear Agreement (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action – JCPOA) in its entirety. Together with our EU partners and many other actors in the international community, we believe the JCPOA is working: it is delivering on its main goal of keeping the Iranian government engaged in the implementation of its commitments.

The continued effective implementation of the JCPOA may, moreover, increase the momentum and political will to overcome additional non-proliferation challenges, and may also help foster a climate that allows for decreasing tensions related to other aspects of Iranian foreign policy in the region.

We need to pursue every effort in the continued construction of a frank relationship with Iran through constructive dialogue and diplomacy. In this light, Malta hopes that the US reconsiders its decision to withdraw from the JCPOA.
